Co-operatives for learning in higher education: experiences of undergraduate students from environmental sciences

Non-hegemonic perspectives on sustainability are grounded in environmental based justice. We argue about the potential of co-operatives for learning framed through degrowth epistemological visions promoting pedagogical changes Higher Education. The context is a public university Catalonia (Spain) implementing an innovative teaching methodology merging service and Environmental Sciences degree. research question was: What experiences undergraduate students participating education? Data collection used focus group interviews individual reflective narratives. Based construct dialectical tensions, we identify three breaking points transition to justice-based using learning: (a) decommodification work (tradition/innovation; theory/practice); (b) reconstruction relationships with ‘the other’ (individual/collective); (c) nature (capitalism/degrowth). conclude that students’ praxis promoted when addressing new development teaching.
